Game Quote of the Day

Beatfreaker over at Portable Soldier sent a quote that I thought was pretty damn hilarious and got me thinking about doing Game Quote of a Day series, when they pop up.

So starting with, Activision. They say they will start a subscription service for the the next Modern Warfare 3. People can pay monthly subscriptions for extra bits here and there. People don't take kindly to paying for things they usually get for free.

Quote:

"To add insult to injury, the service is seemingly populated entirely by racist (and/or homophobic) twelve-year-olds whose filthy mouths are only matched by their abnormally high k/d ratios."

Thank you!

Naruto: Tenten

naruto cosplay - tenten by zhyrheTenten is the only female member of Team Guy, and she longs to prove that a female ninja can be just as skilled as any male ninja. Of all of the protagonists in the series, Tenten receives the least amount of screen time. However, series creator Kishimoto Masashi favors her design more than any other female characters he created. Her Japanese Seiyuu is Tamura Yukari and her English voice actor is Danielle Judovits.

Beautiful cosplay by Zhyrhe! This is a pretty popular photo on the net, but I wish people would link her back to her Deviant Art account. Thanks again to Yukino for sending this in!

I figured that in the past I would post if a negative experience was had online while playing some random multiplayer game. Far too often that type of behavior is what makes most people shy away from playing randomly online.

But I'm happy to say that last nights shoot fest in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 resulted in some friendly online play with strangers. Which is refreshing when most of the time its just horrible racist arseholes online.

Its was funny in a way, because its like gamers are starved for online gaming buddies(friendly ones). Cause after 10 min of play I get a friend request. Its like a bell rings off in people's heads," OMG!! someone who isn't insane and not acting like a crazy person, I must add them for future online play, lord knows the next time I'll find someone sane". Although I wouldn't classify my self as sane...but good enough I suppose.

But it was refreshing to join a game and play with someone who wasn't spouting filth every 5 sec. To think I didn't even had my headset on, I just heard voices coming from it while I was playing and thought,"Lets see what nonsense is being said online". To my surprise the guy was chatting away to me, (the game registers my mic if I don't have it turned off-so I guess he thought I could hear him).

So turned my mic on and had a grand ole time. Just wanted to spread a story that sometimes, not all online play with strangers ends up horrible.

Eleven degrees of separation

Last year Matt was seen wearing the iconic All Saints Layer Boots (see below).

Along with the Paul Smith shirt, they set a trend of being easily obtainable off-the-peg items – which went out of stock the moment they were identified!
I managed to nab pretty much the last pair in the south of England before the scramble was on to find them.

Lots of people missed out on them, so the hunt was on for something that could be worn as a next-best option.

First up was the River Island Double-Eyelet boots, which had the distinctive layered leather ankle. Unlike the All Saints boots, they also had a second set of eyelets (as their name would suggest) which some people found distracting.

The also had a distracting zip on the instep of the boot, which made them easy to slip on and off without fussing with the laces.

Nevertheless, they were the best alternative, and as you can see from the comparison photo (see right), they certainly filled the hole left by the All Saints originals.

These had just come onto the River Island range, so were widely available and easy to find. However, they have now been discontinued.

So what alternatives are there now to the All Saints alternatives?

New look made an aged pair in black and brown (see above) and Aldo had something similar too (see below), but these were all much of a muchness.

Well, another alternative boot has recently come to my attention, which I thought I’d share with you.

They come from Peacocks, a budget clothing shop not far removed from Primark!

Just like the River Island Double-Eyelet boots, these sell for a bargain £25! They bear an uncanny resemblance to the River Island boots, so much so you’d be forgiven for thinking that was just what they were!

And finally, in a bizarre full circle, All Saints has just added a new style of boot that’s not that dissimilar to their original Layer Boots! Funny how things come around, isn’t it?

They are called Grain Boots, and have a layer of lighter coloured leather around the ankle. They come in a choice of Graphite (grey); Ochre (tan) or Sepia (mid-brown).

The Sepia seems to be the best match (see left).

A friend of mine put me onto them and he took a photo while trying them on in-store.

Do tell me what you think of them. Will you be getting a pair?

Blood+: Otonashi Saya

blood+ cosplay - otonashi saya by lenneth

Born in 1833 from one of two cocoon-like objects taken from the belly of a chiropteran mummy, Saya was adopted by Joel Goldschmidt and treated as his daughter, while her sister Diva, who was initially left nameless, was locked in tower. Saya did not know about Diva’s existence until 1863, when she heard Diva singing and gave her a name. During a birthday party for Joel, however, Diva’s true nature emerges, as she was released to sing in the party but ended up slaughtering everyone in the Goldschmidt household. Saya then spent her periods of activity hunting Diva, trying to kill her, her chevaliants, and any chiropterans they have created.

It’s a bit scary and disturbing, but I’m hoping that’s fake blood on Lenneth’s hands. Thanks to Katrina for sending this and to Razin for the awesome photography!

Vocaloid 2: Megurine Luki and Megurine Luka

vocaloid 2 cosplay - megurine luki and megurine luka by astellecia and hiyukiNow here is a Megurine Luka cosplay you don’t get to see everyday.

I thought they were two Lukas at first, but apparently, he is actually Luki, the genderbent version of Luka. Luki sings one or two octaves lower than Luka, giving her a male voice despite using the same voice configuration. Among the Japanese fandom, voice configuration is often the way Genderbent Vocaloids are created.

In any case, great cosplay by Astellecia and Hiyuki! Please be sure to visit their galleries too!

TARDIS spotting

Last year I ran a piece on the various surviving Police Posts & Boxes that can be found around London.

Well, this weekend I was watching a rather kitsch Hammer film from the 1960s called The Anniversary. It’s not one of Hammer’s finest, but it does have an amazingly over the top performance by Bette Davis, who’s entrance in the film has to be seen to be believed!

It was shot at Elstree Studios, Borehamwood (less than a mile from where I live) in May 1967 with a scene filmed inside a shop on the local high street.
The Anniversary
It was during this scene I suddenly realised that in the background, on the opposite side of the street, was a full sized original Metropolitan Police Box, just the same as Matt Smith’s! (see right, right side of frame)

Annoyingly it is part obscured for its brief appearance, but it’s there nevertheless!

The next shot is from a slightly different angle, but again it is part obscured! Darn! (see left, centre of frame)

Right at the end of the scene though, you do get to see a bit more of it and this time there is no doubt! (see below, left side of frame)

You can watch the full clip from the film here: The Anniversary

The Prisoner
Now, all this put me in mind of a scene from my other best-loved series, The Prisoner. Again this was filmed in the Borehamwood area in 1967 and another Police box can be seen fleetingly in the background of a car chase during the episode The Girl Who Was Death. (see below, left of frame)

The reason these are particularly interesting is that a third box in the local area on the Barnet Bypass was due to appear in Logopolis, but due to vandalism not long before the paned filming it was demolished and the scenes were shot near Amersham in Buckinghamshire instead.
You can watch the full car chase from the episode here:
The Girl Who Was Death

The New Avengers
One of my readers put me onto this one.

In an episode of The New Avengers called Target, Steed, Purdey and Gambit get caught up in shenanigans at a training range designed to look like a typical English village.

Part of the street furniture includes a 1960s Police Box. it can be seen from the very opening shot (see above) and pops up throughout the episode in the background.

The best view of the box shows it has no roof lamp, and appears to only have one POLICE BOX sign above the front door (see left).
Ultimately the box comes to a sticky end, when Gambit deflects a bomb-filled pram in its direction, totally destroying it in the process! (see below)
This shows it wasn’t a real Police Box, unlike the ones listed above.

If what I am told is true, this was apparently the Police Box prop used on both Peter Cushing feature films – which makes this a travesty.
You can see the exploding Police Box here: The New Avengers

Seeing these shots, it also makes me realise that the ‘new look’ TARDIS is actually a lot closer to the real thing than the classic series or ever the early new series ever were.
Have you ever spotted a genuine Police Box in the background of a film or tv series you have been watching? If so, drop me a line and let me know. Maybe we can get a decent collection together.

I am SO LATE on this I know! But it seems like the people that brought us Anime Festival Asia has also gotten us a team of 4 kawaii girls! Sea ☆ A  is a quartet of Singaporean (Except Wynnie who’s from Malaysia) idol girl group who will debut in Japan.

Being a Singaporean myself, I must say I’m excited for the girls and I sincerely wish them the best on this endeavour! If their endeavour is a successful one, I’m sure they will pave way for more such talents in the future ^_^ Fellow Singaporeans/ SouthEast Asianers, aren’t you excited XD?

And as usual, whenever there’s a novel action or introduction of something. There are bound to be people who are not agreeable. I am not a Sea☆A fan but I can’t help feeling unjust for them when I read some of the comments on Youtube.

image

Yeah. And I’m sure you totally look your age. Probably a kindergartner trapped in a grandma’s body?

Is this meant to be sarcasm?

I don’t understand what’s with all the cynical criticism because it is too early to judge. Let’s all give Sea☆A some time to prove themselves before we comment.

And before that, let’s give our fellow S.E.A girls (Singaporean & Malaysian) a big cheer for they have done something no one has done before!

P/s: I don’t really like their name though =\ Hard to type that ☆  sign
